Congregation Honors 2012 Graduates

Congregation members gather to celebrate the accomplishments
of eight college and three high school graduates on June 15,
2012. “We love our graduates, we encourage further education
and support in any way possible,” said Richard Lewis,
This 30-year tradition of The Glass City Church of Christ
began when Bro. Turner, along with Annie and George Mayo
launched a resource and encouragement program for students
which concludes with the annual banquet. Current educational
director Lewis works with committee members to ensure the
Students received a proclamation from Mayor Michael Bell,
plaque, saving bond, faith-based encouragement, and Bible.
“This program has survived through the dedication of the
committee, and we hope the graduates will see the light and
love from us and continue to shine,” said Richard Lewis.
This year's college graduates were Brandon Banton, Mesha
Brown, Ashli Hearron, Marva “Peaches” Jones and Marquel
Michell from The University of Toledo; Vernanna Durlap from
Ashford University; La Rhonda McCoy from Owens Community
College and Charmyn McKinney from Herzing University. Hthe
hgh school graduates were Terrika King from Polly Fox
Academy; Theodore “Tre” Marshall III and Morgan Morrison
from Sylvania Southview.
UT graduate Banton, earned a network administration degree
with expectation of installing networks. “College is the way
to go, not the only option but a good one that leads to
success. Go to college, go to college, I can’t stress that
enough,” he said.
Graduation committee members were: Dorothy Hill, Marshel
Houston, Nat Jones, Richard Lewis, Vanessa Lynn, Gail Purdie
and Cheryl Wilson.
The Glass City Church of Christ is under the pastoral
leadership of Minister Robert G. Birt, holds worship and
ministry meetings at the Holiday Inn Splash Bay located at
Gate Drive Maumee, Ohio. Sunday school 9:00 a.m; service
10:00 a.m; Wednesday Bible study 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
